Our Vision
Ito Architecture Associates is an architectural practice based in Tokyo and Yokohama since 2018. We work across a wide range of fields, from the design of private residences to commercial interiors and furniture design. While primarily active in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, our projects also extend to regions such as Izu and Okinawa. We have furthermore collaborated with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, including North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
Japanese Aesthetics and Materials
Our approach draws inspiration from the spatial composition and material sensitivity inherent in Japanese architecture. Grounded in a minimal and refined design philosophy, we combine natural and tactile materials such as wood, paper, stone, tatami, and traditional plaster finishes to create spaces that express the unique beauty of Japan.
Listening to the Voice of the Place — Coexisting with Nature and the City
Japan is a country rich in diverse natural landscapes stretching from north to south, while major metropolitan areas such as Tokyo are characterized by extremely high urban density. For each project, we “listen to the voice of the place” and propose architecture that responds specifically to its context. We also advocate environmentally responsible design, incorporating high thermal performance and the use of natural energy whenever possible.

Historically, Japan has welcomed and integrated numerous cultural influences from abroad. In the same spirit, we engage in dialogue with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds in order to understand their ideas and aspirations, actively integrating them into our design process.
Through architecture, we aim to create spaces that bring joy and delight, while allowing people to reconnect with their identity, their culture, and the natural environment of Japan.
